Air Pollution and Health Correlation Survey

The Residents Association of Dana Bay Conservancy received various complaints indicating that cases of considerable air pollution by unknown chemicals regularly occurred during past few months.  The recurring air pollution infringes the resident's property rights and our entitlement to a safe and healthy environment.

Residents observations depend on individual senses and cannot identify the pollutants.  Residents with a history of respiratory disorders, children and seniors are at specific risk.  Chemical pollution may not have an immediate effect but affects health in the longer term.

Such pollution contravenes the principles and standards of the South African laws and our National Constitution of South Africa (Section 24).  Every person has the right to clean air, the National Environmental Management Act of 1998, the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, Act No. 39 of 2004, (NEM:AQA)

The Residents Association of Dana Bay Conservancy will continue to monitor and collect evidence of the cases of the pollution in question.

  Lugbesoedeling en Gesondheidskorrelasie Opnames

Die Inwonersvereniging van Danabaai Bewarea het onlangs verskeie klagtes in verband met lugbesoedeling - deur onbekende chemikalië -  oor die afgelope maande ontvang.  Die herhaalde lugbesoedeling maak inbreuk op die regte van ons as inwoners vir ‘n gesonde en veilige omgewing.

Inwoners se waarnemings is afhanklik van ons individuele sintuie en ons is  nie bevoeg om die chemikalië te identifiseer nie.  Inwoners wat  ‘n geskiedenis van asemhalings probleme het , sowel as kinders en senior burgers het die grootste risiko.  Chemiese besoedeling mag dalk nie in die korttermyn opgemerk word nie, maar mag in die langeduur ‘n invloed op gesondheid uitoefen.

Hierdie lugbesoedeling is duidelik  teenstrydig met die standaarde en beginsel van ons Suid-Afrikaanse wet en die Nasionale Grondwet van Suid-Afrika (seksie 24).  Elke persoon is geregtig op skoon lug, die Nasionale Omgewings Bestuurswet van 1998, die Nasionale Lugkwaliteit bestuurswet, wet Nr. 39 van 2004, (NEM:AQA).

Die Inwonersvereniging van Danabaai Bewarea sal volhard met die moniteering en versameling van insidente ivm lugbesoedeling.
